Meet Kristin McCaig, Registered Massage Therapist
When it came time to choose a career path for myself I knew that it had to be in the realm of health and wellness. I wanted to work with people, in an environment where I could help them achieve improved health and well being. I firmly believe that being healthy is about taking care of our bodies and our minds NOW. I do not support the predominant approach in the Western world of waiting for sickness to set in and ignoring our responsibility to take care of ourselves physically and emotionally beforehand.
I received an Advanced Diploma in Massage Therapy from Algonquin College in 2003. This program offered 2200 hours of instruction in “assessing and treating physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissue and joints of the body mostly by hands on manipulation, hydrotherapy, orthopaedic and neurological testing, remedial exercise programs and client education programs.”(CMTO) I later completed a Hot Stone Therapy program and throughout 2006 I studied Shiatsu at the International Academy of Natural Health Sciences.
Since beginning my practice in 2003 I have split my time between the spa and home settings. I have been able to maintain a clinical practice in both environments while enjoying the “relaxing” nature of many of the treatments at the spa. In August 2008 I left for a 12 month maternity leave. I am extremely excited to have returned to work in a multi-disciplinary clinic which offers my new and existing clients more avenues to improved health under one roof. I believe that good health is not the result of one measure but can be achieved through multiple channels including (but not limited to) massage therapy, nutritional counselling and “the chiropractic lifestyle.”
Besides my dedication to healthy living I am passionate about music(singing & songwriting) and my family(including my sweetheart, my son and my chocolate lab) . I also play Ultimate Frisbee and love spending time in the outdoors. I look forward to spending many quiet hours with you, working to decrease your discomfort or pain, increase your relaxation and to educate you into a healthier, happier version of who you are now.
